Sales tax rebates increase locally

The cities of Vernon, Chillicothe and Crowell; and Wilbarger County each reported increases in sales tax increases during the month of December while the City of Quanah and Hardeman County saw decreases compared to December of 2021, according to a report from the state comptroller’s office.
State Comptroller Glenn Hegar sent Texas cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for December, which represented a 12.4 percent increase over December 2021.
These allocations are based on sales made in October by businesses that report tax monthly.
December sales tax rebates paid to area taxing entities include:
–City of Vernon (1.50 percent): Payment this period, $176,099.20, up 7.69 percent from $163,513.78. Tax payments to date, $2,322,857.89, up 2.97 percent from $2,255,646.63.
–Wilbarger County (0.50 percent): Tax payment this period, $64,811.59, up 8.72 percent from $59,609.11. Tax payments to date, $810,677.9, down.8.47 percent from $885,764.22.
