Robotics team at Razorback Invitational
The Boys and Girls Club of Vernon’s First Lego League robotics team, Power Protectors, was recently invited to attend the exclusive Razorback Open Invitational, an international robotics competition to be held at the University of Arkansas from May 18-21. The event will include 80 teams, 70 teams from North America and 10 international teams.
In March, the Power Protectors were one of only 56 teams in the state out of 1,500 teams to advance to the Texas State Championship. The Power Protectors put on an impressive showing against teams sponsored by big urban and suburban school districts and private schools from across the state. The Boys and Girls Club team received second place at State for their Innovation Project and ended as one of the top ten teams overall in the state. Based on their strong showing at State, the team was then invited to attend the Razorback Open Invitational.
The Power Protectors consist of Abigail Brummett, Stella Heatly, Sriram Kadiyala, Varshini Kadiyala, Jeremiah Rose, Katarina Rose and Norah Schiwart and is coached by Meg Heatly.
The entry fee for the Razorback International Competition is $4,000. Donations to assist with the expenses for attending the event can be made to the Boys and Girls Club.
