Collision on U.S. 283 claims life of Chillicothe man
A Chillicothe man died following a two-vehicle collision reported at 6:20 a.m., June 20, on U.S. 283 at FM 91.
The deceased was identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety in a news release Wednesday afternoon as Carlos Jose Ayala, 52, of Chillicothe. The driver of the second vehicle was identified as Cherokee Lynne Chambers, 53, of Vernon, who was reported as having a non-incapacitating injury.
Ayala was transported from the scene by ambulance to Wilbarger General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:52 a.m. by the attending physician.
According to the DPS news release, “Preliminary investigation revealed that Vehicle 1 (Ayala) was traveling east on FM 91 approaching the intersection of US 283. Vehicle 2 (Chambers) was traveling north on US 283. Vehicle 1 disregarded the stop sign and failed to stop before entering the intersection of FM 91 and US 283. Vehicle 1 entered the pathway of Vehicle 2 causing this crash. Vehicle 2 struck Vehicle 1 in the intersection. Vehicle 1’s driver was transported to the hospital and later died.”
