Oklaunion man dies in single vehicle wreck
An Oklaunion man was killed in a single vehicle wreck Monday afternoon on County Road 117, 3.7 miles north of Oklaunion.
The Texas Department of Safety was notified of the incident at 4:40 p.m., according to a news release issued late Wednesday. First responders from the Wilbarger County Sheriff’s Office and Vernon Fire Department were first to arrive on scene, where they found the vehicle’s driver deceased.
The DPS news release identified the driver as James Ray Duncan, 58, of Oklaunion.
According to the information provided by DPS, the preliminary investigation indicated that Duncan was driving a 1990 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck south on CR 117 when, “For unknown reasons, the driver of Vehicle 1 drove off the roadway to the left, overcorrected steering right and entered into a side skid. Vehicle 1 crossed back across the roadway exiting the right side of the roadway driving into the barrow ditch striking an embankment and overturning. The driver of Vehicle 1 was ejected due to being unrestrained by a seatbelt and died on the scene of the crash.”
