Police respond to home invasion type crime

Vernon Police are investigating a home invasion type crime that occurred at around 3 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, around Brewer and College drives.

Vernon Police Lt. Mickey Allen said that officers were called to an apartment off Brewer Drive and the officers were told by the reporting party that a male subject entered the apartment carrying a baseball bat, and the resident responded by using a firearm to defend themself.

Allen went on to say that there was blood evidence at the location indicating the intruder may have sustained a gunshot wound.

Officers were unable to locate the subject following their arrival at the location.

In other police activity, Vernon Police executed a search warrant in the 2900 block of Yamparika Street Tuesday, June 28. Crime scene tape was placed around the perimeter of the home while officers searched for illegal narcotics inside the residence, leading to speculation within the community that a more serious crime had occurred at the location.

The search turned up what Allen described as a “user’s amount of illegal narcotic.”

A male subject was arrested at the location on a warrant for parole violation.

Allen extended thanks to the Wilbarger County Sheriff’s Office for the help of a deputy during the search.

The case remains under investigation.
