High winds tear roof off motel

At around 5 p.m. Thursday, a powerful storm swept across Vernon with high winds, hail, and rain. The winds blew a large portion of the metal roof off of the Green Bird Inn at 3029 Morton St.

The powerful winds also blew down a large pecan tree on Texas Street between Turner and Streets, blocking the eastbound lane of Texas. The tree took down a utility line when it fell.
