City of Vernon sets special commission meeting

The Vernon City Commission will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Vernon City Hall during which the commission will take possible action on setting public hearings on the 2023 tax rate and the 2023-2024 City of Vernon budget.

Currently, the commission is proposing a tax rate of .51 cents per $100 property valuation. This is down from last year’s rate of .5299 cents per $100 valuation. At this proposed rate the city would collect $15,230,000 in taxes for 2023.

If the commission votes to hold a public hearing, community members that would like to express an opinion concerning the proposed rate will have an opportunity to address the commission at that time. Anyone wishing to speak during a public hearing must complete an application prior to the meeting to have five minutes to voice their opinions and concerns directly to the commission.

Further details on any public hearings will be posted on this website. Check back often for updates.
