Gerald Edwin Drury
Gerald Edwin Drury, 90, died Aug. 31, 2023 in Vernon,
Texas.
Services were held at Sullivan’s Funeral Home Chapel,
Vernon, Texas, on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023 at 10 a.m. Burial
followed at the Boggy Cemetery. Visitation was Monday,
Sept. 4, 2023 at Sullivan Funeral Home.
Gerald was born July 2, 1933 in Olustee, Okla. to
Needham and Beulah Drury. He married Sandra Joy
Ingle on Aug. 25, 1956 in Olustee and they established
their home in Altus, Okla. He worked for 34 years for the
Oklahoma Department of Transportation and also farmed
raising wheat, cotton, and cattle. Gerald and Joy added
two sons to the family in 1961 and 1963. He taught them
both how to drive pickups and tractors at a very young age. They had many years of
wonderful experiences and memories on the farm. He taught them how to work, play
and love their families. He and his wife also owned and operated rental apartments
in Blair, Okla. until moving to Duncan, Okla. in 1979 where he worked for ODOT
as Assistant Resident Engineer before retiring in 1986. Gerald and Joy spent many
enjoyable years traveling in their motorhome, making many lasting friendships along
the way. His favorite hobby was sitting around a big camp re telling stories with his
old buddies. Gerald was known for being quite the character and would always leave
you with a smile.
Gerald is survived by his sons: Kevin and wife Kristie Drury of Mustang, Okla.
and Kent and wife Shana Drury of Vernon, Texas; his grandchildren Spencer
Drury of Oklahoma City, Okla., Kelly and husband Emol Edwards of Oklahoma
City, Okla., Cassie and husband JB Swetland, Yukon, Okla., Kyle and wife Kelly
Drury of Electra, Texas, Koby and wife Elizabeth Drury of Lubbock, Texas, and
Garrett Munson of Vernon, Texas. He also leaves behind great grandchildren Ayden,
Bryleigh, Paisley, Gracee, and Olive. A very special thank you to his caregivers Jamie
Pring and Alice Dahlby for the many years of love, compassion, and loyal care.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joy of 60 years, parents Needham and
Beulah, sister Daphne and daughter-in-law Katrena.
