Edith Marie Holder
Edith Marie Holder, 88, passed away peacefully on Sept. 1,
2024. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 9,
2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Vernon, Tx with
Pastor To
m Davis o ciating. Edith was born in the country in
Wichita County to RB and Loraine Carpenter. The family moved
to Denver City, Tx where she grew up. She married her high school
sweetheart, Jackie Luton. They lived a beautiful life in Houston, Tx
and had three daughters, Janet, Shelli and Sharron. After the sudden
passing of Jackie, Edith and their daughters moved to Lubbock, Tx.
Within several years, God blessed Edith with a reconnection to her
childhood friend, Ray Holder. That reconnection led to another great
love story. Ray & Edith made their home in Vernon, Tx and were
married for 42 years before Ray’s passing in 2013.
Edith loved her family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of
humor and an even better laugh.
Edith proudly served as legal secretary for the Wilbarger County District Attorney’s o ce for 21
years and was a long-time member of the division of Legal Secretaries of the State Bar of Texas.
She truly loved her job and coworkers. She enjoyed gol ng with Ray in her younger days and had
a special talent for sewing. Her girls would often go to bed when Edith had just started sewing
for the evening and wake up the next day with a new out t, ready to wear. She was a member
of the First United Methodist Church in Vernon, TX and an active member of the Win-Some
Sunday school class. She loved her church and was deeply saddened when her health declined and
was unable to attend. She was a member of the Yamparika Club in Vernon where she served as
secretary for many years. She also volunteered for the Red River Valley Museum in Vernon.
Edith is rejoicing with those who preceded her in death: Parents RB & Loraine Carpenter,
husband Jackie Luton and husband Ray Holder. daughter, Janet Luton, brothers CB & Kenneth
Carpenter, sweet sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Carpenter & Willie May Williams and niece Beverly
Carpenter and nephew Rod Williams. Surviving family includes daughter Shelli Rainbolt and
husband Kerry (Wol orth), daughter Sharron Davis and husband Mike (Wichita Falls, TX), 5
Grandchildren, Braden Culver (Midland), Alyssa Goodgion and husband Phillip (Lubbock),
Logan Rainbolt & Braden Rainbolt (both of Lubbock), Elliott Davis and wife Morgan (Wichita
Falls), Drew Davis and wife Kaitlyn (Wichita Falls), 4 Great grandchildren, Maverick Ryan,
Ella Kate, Ellison Edith Davis and Ember Elise Goodgion, Nieces Diane Beck (Denver City),
Cherie Williams Dennis (Hobbs, NM), Paulette Decker (Lubbock) and Janiece Carpenter-Keeling
(Hedley) nephew Clayson Carpenter and wife Brenda (Sea Drift), Great Niece, April Tapaha and
husband Travis (Denver City) and many great nephews.
Edith will be laid to rest at Eastview Memorial Cemetery in Vernon, TX. Memorials may be sent
to the First United Methodist Church in Vernon, TX.
