Wilbarger County Jail Officer Arrested

Wilbarger County Sheriff’s Department Jailer Corey Allen Johnson, 38, was jailed in Wichita County on charges of violation of inmates’ civil rights and bringing prohibited items into the Wilbarger County Jail. Bail was set at a total of $65,000.

Sheriff Brian Fritz stated that as soon as he was made aware of the allegations against Johnson, he contacted the Texas Rangers and asked them to investigate the allegations. He stated that he turned over all evidence and statements that his office had to the Rangers at that time.

A Texas Ranger verified that he was contacted by the Wilbarger County Sheriff in early October about a complaint to jail staff about inappropriate contact by Johnson with female inmates.

After the complaint, a jail administrator reviewed the video from the jail cameras.

The Ranger reported that one video shows Johnson clandestinely taking a female inmate out of her cell into a room that was not in view of cameras. He said the inmate appeared to be wearing only a bra and a blanket. A short time later, the Ranger said it showed Johnson taking the inmate back to her cell.

The Ranger went to the jail and interviewed Johnson. He said Johnson admitted to taking two inmates out of their cell and having sex in the property room and that he gave the inmates extra food and medicine.

The Ranger also interviewed two inmates, and one said Johnson would also give her a phone and allow her to make calls after he took her from her cell.

The Ranger said during the interview of another inmate, she pulled a nicotine vape from her bra and gave it to him. She said Johnson would supply the female inmates with a vape when he came on duty and collect it at the end of his shift.

She said Johnson had provided this vape at the beginning of his shift that day.
