Green hydrogen project fizzles
What began as a joint venture to build a $4 billion green hydrogen facility in Wilbarger County came to an end in November.
The partnership of Air Products and AES to construct a plant for producing hydrogen in Wilbarger County dissolved when Air Products withdrew from the project. Air Products was to be responsible for the construction and operation of the physical plant with AES building solar and wind farms to supply the operation with green energy. AES has taken over 100% of the project after Air Products’ pulled out of the partnership.
AES remains committed to building the solar farms and wind turbines that would have powered the proposed hydrogen plant. Amy Lobel, spokesperson for AES, said in a telephone interview that AES is moving forward with the project and pursuing a variety of opportunities for the site.
An email to Gov. Greg Abbott’s office asking for comment went unanswered as of press time.
